My Story:
My journey to healing started over 12 years ago when I finally discovered I had generalized anxiety. I struggled with anxiety from as early as I can remember. I always felt different, and was often told that I was different. I was always the sensitive one, and that things bothered me more than they should. It was true that I did feel things very deeply. But I was also always worrying. At that age I had no idea what anxiety was, and I never had any education surrounding mental health, or wellness in general.
I felt a sense of relief when I was diagnosed because I was finally able to name the thing that I had been struggling with for most of my life. I was actually a little intrigued by it, and found the process of learning about myself extremely interesting. During my healing journey I’ve had many beautiful, life changing realizations, but I also had many extremely dark and difficult moments.
Trauma is a spectrum and can manifest in many different ways. My anxiety was a manifestation of my own trauma, and as I grew into adulthood the mental and physical symptoms that resulted from my anxiety not being treated were severe. I had problems such as excessive weight loss/gain, drastic changes in appetite, trouble sleeping, insomnia, and difficulty concentrating. I wasn’t speaking up for myself, I didn’t know how to ask for what I needed, and I didn’t know how to set boundaries with anyone. Needless to say I was not taking care of myself, and I was incredibly unhappy and unhealthy……mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually for a very long time. One day, after experiencing one of the worst anxiety attacks I ever had, I finally had my conscious awakening moment, and I said enough is enough. That moment is what jumpstarted my healing journey.
A few years into my healing journey, I found myself saying “I wish I had someone like me to help me when I was struggling.” This is why I became a holistic health coach, yoga and meditation teacher, so I can help others who are struggling, and in need of guidance to work through their “stuff.” Healing and growth is a wonderful thing, but it can also be difficult to navigate. This is why many people choose not to go through the transformative healing process because it means having to go near the hurt, the pain, the trauma, or whatever it is that’s been buried for so long. When you stay unconscious, you stay stuck and stagnant because that energy is not moving, so change isn’t able to occur. In order for transformation to happen, there has to be change. It’s difficult, but I promise you that once you make it through to the other side, there is no going back. You only become more conscious, more aware of who you are, and what you need to do to vibrate higher.
